She was an active child who loved to keep busy, and by the time Simona was a teenager she had taken a liking to riding bicycles, playing golf, and wintertime sports like skiing and snowboarding. It was when Simona discovered racing that she put all of her athletic eggs in one basket and started pursuing a single sport aggressively.
There were many facets of racing that intrigued Simona de Silvestro. She was interested in the techniques of racing as well as the mechanics of cars. In 2001, when Simona was only in her early teens, she took up Kart racing.
She won the Atlantic race at the 2008 Long Beach Grand Prix, making her the 2nd woman to win in that series[1]. She won 4 times during the 2009 season and led in points for most of the season. She ultimately finished 3rd in the standings after retiring on the first lap during the season finale at Laguna Seca.
de Silvestro participated in an IRL IndyCar Series test on December 8 and 9, 2009 at Sebring International Raceway, a joint effort between HVM Racing and Team Stargate Worlds.[2] de Silvestro is competing full–time in the IRL IndyCar Series for HVM Racing for the 2010 season. On May 22, 2010, she qualified in the 22nd position for the 2010 Indianapolis 500. She finished the race in 14th position, and earned Rookie of the Year honors. If you're busy driving a race car all day long, we'd expect that maintaining your looks wouldn't be at the top of your list of priorities. Nevertheless, we can't help but get goosebumps every time we see Simona de Silvestro in her fireproof racing suit. There's just something about checking out a good-looking woman while getting a buzz off of the smell of burning tires and exhaust.
